America's Top Dog Contest

E-mail Print PDF

Canine mascots are to independent jewelry retailers what parrots are to pirates. Many store owners have decided that having their furry friends around is a great way to set themselves apart from the competition and show the casual, caring side of their business.

Here at The SMART Jewelry Show, we also have a soft spot for dogs and like to recognize the work they do. (Sure, it may look easy to lounge around the store all day. But you try constantly getting your hair ruffled by strangers and being forced to dress up in ridiculous costumes for photo shoots — it's hard work!) So we're bringing the America's Top Dog contest back to Chicago in 2012.

And how about this: The SMART Show and our America's Top Dog sponsor — GE Capital — will both match contributions up to $1,000!

Get your pooch the recognition it deserves while helping the dogs that are there when we need them most.

National Search Dog Foundation

Founded in 1996, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation takes dogs that need to be saved and teaches them how to save people.

Rescued dogs are trained to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters, then partnered with firefighters and other first responders, strengthening disaster response in America.

Even better, fire departments get these professionally trained canines and an ongoing training program at no cost. SDF also ensures lifetime care for every dog in the program: once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

There are currently 72 SDF-trained search teams located in California, Florida, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.

Thanks to agreements between counties, cities and states, these precious, life-saving resources can be shared regionally and nationally to make sure that when disaster strikes, NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.
